Arlington has had a playdate with her friends to go swimming, which she has really enjoyed, and that has helped her stay cool. We have taken some short trips in the car to get out of the house, and have played on the playground. But afternoons have had to be in the cool, and under the fans. With it near 100 degrees, we cannot be outside for long.
In the summer, we don't have much of a routine. Mostly we take our days how they come. But we have been doing a little "work" each day, just to keep the kids fresh for the upcoming school year. My kids have always enjoyed doing workbooks, and we keep it to 10-15 minutes a day.
Right now, Arlington is working on her multiplication and cursive writing. She had been pretty far into both of those with her enrichment class before it ended in June, and she wished to continue practicing.
Finley is working on writing, which can be kind of difficult for her. She really turns herself all over the place to write the letters. But she doesn't complain and keeps at it. She is also working on her numbers as well - she recognizes all, but she needs work on her handwriting. She is also working on site words, and her braille of course.
If you are wondering where her glasses are - she has a hard time seeing the small lines with her many blind spots, so she requests to take them off to write.
Cainan is working on addition and continuing to write his words. If Kumon taught him one thing, it was great handwriting skills. He is able to write very quickly now, and that is really great. And he can add quite well - it is great to see. I am proud that he remembers what he learned.
So at some point each day, we are doing a little school work. We keep it light and we keep it fun. The kids have actually asked to do it.
Arlington is also reading about a book a day. It passes the time when we can't be outside for long periods, and she seems to have found a few books series she really likes. She and I are reading the 5th Harry Potter book together as well.
So - this is how we are spending out days. We aren't starting any projects with the upcoming move, so this works for us this summer.
We are enjoying our summer. It is moving by very fast. Once we are settled in our new house, the real fun begins. We will be busy working on our new yard and a few painting project we have. We will be touring the kids news schools and getting all supplies in order. And we will be gearing up for Finley's summer event. So many more things to come!
