Cainan's surgery

I will post pictures of all of our fun activities in Pennsylvania in a few days, but wanted to let everyone know that Cainan had surgery on his lip and nose today.  He did very well.

We had to be at the hospital at 8:30 am.  We left the house at 6:30 am.  It takes 1 1/2 hours to get there, so I left myself extra time.  It turned out to not be enough.  We hit a ton of traffic and were 15 minutes late.

Luckily, it was not big deal.  They took us right back and he was in surgery by 9:40 am.  He was crazy excited in the room before they took him back.  Not at all scared or upset.  We had gotten him a little toy to play with and he was having a good time with that.  He was very cooperative.  I was able to go into the operating room with him while he fell asleep.  He was out in a few seconds.

The operation lasted until 11am - not bad!  The doctor came out and brought me these before and after photos.

I know the pictures are a bit weird.  He was asleep already in the first one.  The swelling will take a little while to go down.  He has stiches through both sides of his nose - the only real way to help make a little bit of a bridge.  And he just has Dermabond over his lip/between his lip and nose.  Amazing.  No stitches there - which is great.

He woke up sad.  He was disoriented and kept asking to go home.  But after a few minutes he was able to focus and settled down.  We only had to stay in recovery for 45 minutes and then went to our room.  We were so happy to have a private room.  He wasn't allowed to get out of bed, so we were able to spread everything out.

We got him two toys and so he opened those and played with them in the afternoon.  He ate okay, but not great.  He was on clear liquids for lunch and full liquids by dinner time.  He didn't nap the whole day - I was surprised.

By 7pm, Mat was there to relieve me and spend the night with him.  Cainan went to sleep before I left.  Hopefully he will have a good night!  He will be allowed to go home in the morning.

Thanks for everyone's well wishes - we appreciated them!
