Snow......sort of

This morning we were woken up at 5:30 to the phone ringing.  It was my school district announcing that school would be dismissed early today due to impending weather.  That was a nice little treat on a Friday morning.

School got out at 1pm.  At 1pm, the sun was shining, and there was a light breeze.  The snow that was supposed to be here by now is stuck on the west side of the state.  This worked out nicely for me because I got to drive home when the weather was still good.
Arlington's school did not get dismissed early.  Never a district to err on the side of caution (I mean that lovingly) they decided to wait and see.  And that ended up being the right choice.  The snow did not get to our area until 6pm.  And at that, it is only supposed to be about 1-3 inches.

I love that the weather men got everyone all riled up earlier this week about an impending snow storm and how heavy it was going to be, and how it could dump 6-12 inches, yada, yada.  And here we are, watching the weather during lunch today, and seeing the numbers: 1-3 inches.  6pm start.  And thinking - how did they get it so wrong?

But it is all well.  I got to go home to a quiet house this afternoon and have 2 1/2 hours before the first child made their appearance from school.  For a working mom, that is bliss.  Today the housekeeper came, so the house was clean, the laundry done.  The house smelled wonderful and no one was there to disturb it.  For 2 1/2 hours.

After that - the house will become a crazy mess.

This weekend, Mat or I will be going to a "meet and greet" for young girls lacrosse.  Arlington has been interested in trying it, and a friend of our told us yesterday that it was starting pretty soon.  Yes, they have a team for 2nd graders.  And it should be interesting.  It is an introductory year, of course, so we will see if she likes it.  They don't play games - it is just 8 practices to teach them the game.  So that should be fine.
Although we have to buy her a stick.  That doesn't sound cheap.

Now - will she be able to do lacrosse AND softball?  That remains to be seen.  I am going to guess probably. They don't overlap too much.  Softball will start in March (yeah, think that one over in your head), and Lacrosse doesn't start until almost May.  And Lacrosse will only be Saturday morning.  Softball will be, well, 4 times a week.  But that is another story.  And it is almost never Saturday morning.
Tonight we are watching the snow fall.  We watched Ramona and Beezus with the kids.  Arlington cried three times during that movie.  She is a sap when it comes to sad movies and sad books.

Tomorrow will probably be filled with sled riding, and hot chocolate, and hopefully working a bit more on the playroom.  So stay tuned.
I want to thank everyone who sent sweet emails, and comments about my post yesterday.  Your outpouring of support means a lot to our family.  We know how many of there you are - who follow our story, pray for Finley, and just generally are in this journey with us.  And that gives our hearts peace.
